What is Insurance?

Insurance Awareness Day

Reading Comprehension for June 28

"What are you doing, Mom?" Mom was sitting at the kitchen table with papers spread around her, working on some bills.

"I'm paying the bills, honey."

"Don't you wish you didn't have to pay bills?"

Mom laughed. "Yes, sometimes. However, I need to pay for things to help us live responsibly. For example, I am paying for our home, car, and life insurance this month."

I had heard about insurance before, but I didn't really understand what it was. It seemed as good a time as any to find out! I pulled out a chair and sat opposite of my mother.

"What is insurance, anyway, Mom?"

"Insurance is a service that we pay for to protect us in case of an emergency. For example, I pay car insurance so that if I get into an accident, the insurance company will give us money to replace the car."

"Do you pay home insurance for the same reason?"
