Would You Like to Be a Doctor?

Sometimes when you get sick, you need help to get better. Sometimes even your mom isn't enough help! That's when you need to see a doctor. Doctors can give you the right medicine to get you well when you're sick. If you break a bone in your arm or leg, you will need to go to the doctor. A doctor will put a cast on the bone. That helps the bone grow back together straight. A doctor might give you medicine to make the pain get better, too.

Doctors can help you even when you're not sick! Sometimes your doctor may tell you that you need a shot. Shots may hurt for a minute, but they help keep you well. Without shots, you would get sick a lot more. Some of these sicknesses could even make you die. It's great that doctors can give you shots to keep you from getting these kinds of sicknesses.

When you go to the doctor, he or she checks to see how much you weigh. He or she measures to see how tall you are. The doctor wants to make sure that you are growing the right amount. The doctor listens to your heart and lungs. He or she checks your blood pressure. He or she looks for anything that might show you have a problem before it gets worse.
