Marci's Mean Mom, Part 2
By Mary Lynn Bushong

Marci and Barb were friends from school, but this was Barb's first visit to Marci's home. Barb stood on the front walk and took a deep breath.

"The air is so much better here than in town," she said. "You are so lucky to live in the country."

"I guess so," said Marci. "Mom thought it was better for us to live out here."

"You're lucky," said Barb. "My folks hate yard work, so we have the smallest yard they could find and have a service look after it."

A small jumble of bright eyes, cold, wet noses, and wagging tails met the girls at the door. Barb laughed as she was introduced to each one.

"How many dogs do you have?" she asked.

"We have four of our own and two that we are fostering while they are waiting for their own homes," said Marci.

"Are they your only pets?" asked Barb.

     Marci shook her head.
