Acadia National Park

1     Acadia National Park is in Maine. It is on Mount Desert Island. This is along the coast of Maine. The island is not really a desert. It was named by an explorer. He was describing the bare mountains he found. Part of the mainland and some smaller islands are part of the park, too. The weather can be very cold with lots of snow in the winter. Summers can be warm. The ocean causes a lot of precipitation. It will rain often in the warmer months. Snow or ice storms can happen in the winter.
 
2     Bird watching is fun. It is a very popular activity at Acadia. There are 338 different species of birds here! Many birds breed on Mount Desert Island. Visitors can bring binoculars. They can use them to watch the birds. They can watch for peregrine falcons. They can watch for bald eagles. They can look for osprey and warblers.
