Picking the Right Pet
By Cathy Pearl

1     Choosing the right pet is not an easy thing to do. There are a lot of things that a person needs to think about. Picking the wrong pet might lead you to give the pet to a shelter. Each year more than ten million dogs and cats end up in a shelter. Some of these pets are lost; others are there because their owners didn't want them anymore.

2     So which pet is right for you? Fish are a great pet for a person that isn't home a lot. They come in a lot of different colors and sizes. Fish can even help relax you and lower your blood pressure. You have to remember to feed any fish that you have. The tank will also need to be cleaned. Tanks come as small as two gallons. These are easy to take care of and easy to clean.

3     A pet bird sounds like an easy pet. It lives in a cage and doesn't need a lot of attention. This isn't true. Some birds are very social creatures. They want and need a lot of attention to be happy and healthy. Birds can also live a very long time. Some will live up to eighty years. You have to be sure you want a pet for this long. Their cages need to be cleaned regularly. This can be a messy job. It also isn't a lot of fun to chase a bird that has escaped from its cage.
