The Prince of Pop Art

1 Andy Warhol [WAR-hall] lived from 1928 to 1987. He was a famous American artist. He said that everyone would have fifteen minutes of fame. We call Warhol the Prince of Pop Art. He liked to paint popular things. Sometimes he painted a celebrity. Sometimes he painted items found in a grocery store. Sometimes he painted himself! Other popular subjects were flowers, animals, and women's shoes. His paintings were colorful and different. One painting, called 10 Marilyns, offered Marilyn Monroe's face in ten different colors! He enjoyed taking a familiar object and putting it on canvas. He often copied an object many times on his canvas, like his one hundred soup cans and twenty-four Statues .....![]() |
