1 If someone asked you to explain what sound was, what would you tell them? What if that person were deaf? Would your answer change? It is hard to describe something that you do not see. Did you know that sound is not just something that you hear? Sound is a kind of energy. That means that it can do work. Sound can make things happen. Sound moves from one place to another in the form of vibrations. These vibrations are how we can sense that a sound has been made. The vibrations move through the air (and other materials) like waves on the ocean. As the vibrations move, they transfer their energy to other things.
