1 Edith Bolling was born in Virginia in 1872. Edith did not attend school for long. At 15, she went to school to study music for two years. As a young woman, Edith went to Washington, D.C. to visit one of her sisters. She met Norman Galt. They were married four years after meeting one another. They remained married until Norman died twelve years later. Through common friends, Edith met President Woodrow Wilson. Wilson's wife, Ellen, had died. Woodrow and Edith liked each other right away. They were married a few months after they met. Edith became the new first lady. As first lady, Edith took care of Woodrow. She traveled with him to Europe. She was the first first lady to travel with her husband to Europe while he was president. In Europe, Edith was looked at as a celebrity. This made her like a queen in the eyes of the people. Woodrow suffered a stroke in 1919 .....
