The Sense of Smell: Get a Whiff of This!

1     Hey! What's that smell? The world around us is filled with scents. Some of them are good, like the scent of a flower. Others are bad, like the scent of rotten milk. Smelling helps us to understand our world. We can recognize people, places, and things by the way that they smell. Our sense of smell helps us know what foods will taste good and which ones we should stay away from.
 
2     When it comes to smells, the nose is where it's at! When you smell something, you breathe in through your nose. This pulls scent molecules from the air into your nose. They travel up your nose to a place where scent is sensed by your body. The scents make their way to an area filled with odor receptors. There are millions of them! Each one can sense a different kind of scent. When a scent has been sensed, a signal moves from the odor .....
