Float Like a Butterfly

By Jody Williams
1     "Float like a butterfly. Sting like a bee. Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see." This is just one rhyme from a famous man. He was a boxer. Some say he was the greatest boxer of all time.

2     On January 17, 1942, Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was born. He was born in Kentucky. Segregation was going on. Segregation means separate. It was a time when rules were different for black people and white people. Black people were kept separate from white people. The rules were unfair to blacks and other groups. This made many people angry.

3     When Cassius was young, his bike was stolen. He was angry. He wanted to find the person who took it. He wanted to fight. A police officer told him about boxing. He gave Cassius the name of a trainer.
