2     Alan Alexander Milne was born on January 18, 1882. He grew up in London, England. His father was a schoolmaster. A schoolmaster is a teacher. Alan was a good student. He went to Cambridge University. He worked on the school newspaper. Alan wanted to be a writer. After college, he worked for a magazine.
 
3     Alan joined the military. World War I had started. Alan was in training in France. France is a country in Europe. He wrote his first play. It was produced in London. He wrote other plays.
