Shipwrecked
By Jody Williams 1 What if you were stuck on an island? What would you want with you? Some might say food. Some might say clothes. Some might say TV. One man had what he needed. 2 Alexander Selkirk was born in 1676. He was born in Scotland. Scotland is a country in Europe. He got into some trouble as a child. After he grew up, he met an explorer. The explorer asked him to come along on a trip. 3 They sailed to an island in the Pacific Ocean. By this time, Alexander was 28 years old. Alexander saw that the ship needed repairs. The captain did not want to fix the ship. Alexander knew the ship was not safe. He chose to stay on the island. He ran back on the ship. He knew that he would need some things to survive. He grabbed a gun and gunpowder. He took some tools and a knife. He took a Bible and his clothes. He watched the ship sail away.
