Today is Friday. It was a good day. Mom made my favorite pancakes for breakfast. I got to sit by my best friend on the bus. School was fun. I did not miss any words on my spelling test. I learned how to multiply. We had pizza for lunch. I played kickball at recess. Noah brought birthday treats. Mrs. Williams told us that we would be going on a surprise field trip tomorrow. I can't wait. When I got home, Mom was waiting with fresh baked cookies. Lori is going to sleep over tonight. We can stay up as late as we want. What a great day!
Many people write in a diary. A diary is a book. The pages are blank. A diary is used to record events. It is used to record thoughts. The writer usually wants it to be private. A few are made into books for others to read. Anne Frank kept a diary. Her diary is a famous book. It tells about her life during a difficult part of history.
Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929. She was born in Germany. Germany is a country in Europe. Anne had one sister. Her name was Margot. Anne's parents encouraged her to read and write.
The Frank family was Jewish. In 1933, Adolf Hitler was the ruler of Germany. He did not like anyone that was not like him. He did not like Jewish people. Otto Frank was Anne's father. He sent his wife and daughters to live somewhere else. Otto moved to Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a large city. It is in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is west of Germany. Otto started a business. Later, his family joined him.
In 1940, Germany took over the Netherlands. The Franks were afraid. Adolf Hitler was in charge again. He made all Jews wear a yellow star. They had to wear it when they were in public. Jewish people were treated unfairly.
