Your Name Is What?
By Kathleen W. Redman
"Dad, I want to change my name," Fred said.
"Why would you want to do that?" Mr. James asked.
"I don't like my name. Today is Get a Different Name Day. I want to get a different name."
"What is wrong with your name? I like it," Fred's father said. "My name is Fred, too."
"Fred is a name for an old person like Mr. Rogers," Fred said. "I want a name for someone my age. A cool name."
His father thought for a minute. Then he stood up. "Okay," he said, "Let's go look for a new name for you. I have a book of baby names somewhere. I'll get it and we will see what we can find."
Mr. James went into his office. He came back just a few minutes later. He was carrying a book with a red cover. "Here we are," he said. He opened the book.
"Oh, here's a good name. And you would only have to change the spelling. Then we could call you Ferd. Do you like Ferd?" he asked.
