A Rosy Day
By Beth Beutler
"Your mother will love this," Grandma said to Melanie. She and her granddaughter were out in Grandma's garden, snipping roses for a vase. Grandma grew the most beautiful roses. Melanie always loved to be in Grandma's garden.
"I know she will," Melanie agreed. "Every time I give her flowers, she is so thankful!"
"Do you think we have enough roses?" Grandma asked, holding out a handful of red, white, and pink blossoms.
"How big is the vase?" Melanie asked.
"Let's go to the shed and see."
Melanie and Grandma headed to Grandma's gardening shed. There she kept all sorts of tools that helped her with her gardening. She had rakes, shovels, gloves, and buckets. She also had fertilizer, peat moss, and bug spray. There was a work bench with scissors and vases. She even had a sink. Grandma often arranged flowers for friends, and this shed provided everything she needed.
Grandma carefully laid the roses on the bench and reached up to the shelf with the vases. She pulled down a beautiful blue vase.
"How do you like this one?" she asked, turning to look at Melanie.
