The Vienna Vegetable Orchestra
By Cindy Grigg
1 Many people like orchestra music. Some people have favorite instruments. Some like the violin. Some like the flute. Some like the trumpet. In Austria, there is a vegetable orchestra. The instruments are made of vegetables! In 1998, a group of eleven musicians got together to form this veggie band. They give concerts in Europe and Asia.
2 Violins in this orchestra are made of leeks. Flutes are made of carrots. Pumpkins make drums. Maybe the strangest instrument is the cucumber-phone. A cucumber is carved out to play music. The mouthpiece is a carrot. A bell pepper forms the bell on the end.
