Don't Forget Me!
By Beth Beutler
"Don't forget me!" little Kathryn said to her big sister, Molly.
"I won't," Molly said, hugging her sister. "I'll be back soon."
Molly was going on a class trip to Williamsburg for a few days. Her little sister always hated it when Molly left home for several days. She was easily bored. Molly always tried to spend a good amount of time with her sister. Molly really liked spending time with Kathryn. However, she was glad she was going away with friends her own age.
Molly got into the backseat of the car so Mom could drive her to school to catch the bus that was leaving at 7:00 a.m. A neighbor was watching Kathryn since it was still too early for her to go to school. While riding to school, Molly thought back to the spring, when her class went on a different trip. They had gone to Washington, D.C. Molly had first told her sister about it a week before she was leaving. She closed her eyes and remembered.
The girls were in the garden in the backyard. They were planting flowers, which they both enjoyed.
"Kathryn," Molly had said.
"I am going to go away for a few days on a trip."
Kathryn had looked at her sister with wide, frightened eyes. "Why?"
"My class is going to Washington, D.C.," Molly explained.
Kathryn pouted. "What will I do while you are gone?"
"You will still go to school and have fun with your friends. Mom will take care of you."
Kathryn frowned. "I know, but Mom rarely has time to play with me. She has to work so much. I'll miss you."
