Somewhere Under There

By Kathleen W. Redman
1     Where do you sit when you're at school? You probably sit at a desk. Lots of students work at desks at school. Hattie works at her desk all day. She likes working at her desk at school.

2     Hattie sometimes has homework. She used to do her homework on the dining room table. It wasn't a good place to work. It was always noisy. There was a loud television in the next room. People were always walking by. Hattie couldn't work well there.

3     So Hattie's parents bought her a desk. They put it in her room. It is quiet there. Hattie can work.

4     Hattie's desk is a pretty color. It has lots of drawers. Hattie has many things on her desk. She has some books on her desk. She has lots of colored pencils and crayons. She has scissors and a ruler on her desk. She has all kinds of paper on her desk. She even has pictures of her dog Willow on her desk. She likes her desk a lot.

5     Hattie does her homework there. She also does her artwork there. She likes to draw at her desk. She draws lots of pictures. She paints pictures. All the paints, brushes, colored pencils, crayons, books, and paper get spread all over her desk. As soon as she is finished working or drawing, she runs outside. She does not take time to clean up her desk.
