Katie Couric - Lady Correspondent

By Trista L. Pollard
1     In 2004 she made her debut. Underwater and holding a microphone, Katie Current interviewed the newest shark slayer. The movie was Shark Tale (2004). The voice behind the reporting fish was Katie Couric. Her voice was familiar to millions of people. For fifteen years, she was one of the hosts for NBC's Today show. She became known as "America's Sweetheart."

2     Katherine Anne Couric was born on January 7, 1957, in Arlington, Virginia. She's the daughter of John and Elinor Couric. She and her three siblings (John, Clara, and Emily) grew up in Arlington. Couric graduated from Yorktown High School in 1975. After high school, she went to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. She graduated in 1979. This is when she began her journey into journalism.

3     Couric, like many other journalists, traveled to Washington, D.C. She started working for the ABC news bureau. Couric was a desk assistant at the station. She also worked for CNN as an assignment editor. Unlike ABC, CNN broadcasted only news programs. From CNN, Couric went to Miami, Florida. She worked from 1984 to 1986 at station WTVJ. She was a general-assignment reporter. However, Couric was not in Florida for long.
