1 Are you an outdoor person? Do you like to hike or hunt? Do you like adventure? Or do you like quieter activities like writing or curling up with a good book? Either way, you'll like Gary Paulsen's novels, because Gary Paulsen is an outdoorsman and a writer. He loves competition and adventure, but he also loves to write.
2 In fact, he loves to write so much that he is the author of around 200 books! Many of his books are about outdoor adventures. He had plenty of material to write about from his own experiences. Read about his adventurous life, and you'll see why his ideas have filled up so many books.
3 Gary Paulsen was on his own from an early age. Ever since the age of 15, he has been looking out for himself. He attended Bemidji College in Minnesota, putting himself through school by working as a trapper. He worked at lots of other interesting jobs, too - truck driver, ranch hand, engineer, and magazine proofreader. He spent some time in the army and then worked for an aerospace company in California. Then one day he walked off the job; he knew what he really wanted to do - he wanted to write!
