1     Why is Labor Day a holiday? President Grover Cleveland made Labor Day a holiday. President Cleveland was born in New Jersey. He was born in 1837. He became a lawyer in New York. Then, he was the mayor of Buffalo, New York. After that, he was the governor of New York. In 1885, he became president of the United States.
 
2     Many people did not like President Cleveland. There was a time when it did not rain. Farmers needed help. They asked the government for money. President Cleveland would not give them help. Soldiers of the Civil War also asked for help. They needed help paying medical bills. President Cleveland would not help. He also took land away from the railroads. Grover Cleveland was president until 1889.
