By Mary L. Bushong
Jan, Sarah, and Andrew opened their eyes wide. Their piano lesson room looked strange. It looked ready for a party!
"Hi, kids!" said Mrs. Almott. "I have something new for us to do today. Do you know what today is?"
The children shook their heads.
"Today is Beethoven's [BAY-toe-venz] birthday! We will have a treat to eat, and then we'll play a game. We will have a short lesson today. Does that sound like fun?"
"Do we still have to practice this week?" asked Andrew.
"Of course you do!" laughed Mrs. Almott.
The children put their books away and sat down at the small card table. Each place had a party hat and plate, a cup of milk, and a pencil and paper. Then the teacher put a plate of four cupcakes with candles on the table.
"What are these for?" asked Andrew as he played with the pencil and paper.
"They must be for the game," said Jan.
