Goodness Gracious, Great Bolts of Lightning!
By Erin Horner

1     The night was dark and rainy. Huge sheets of water seemed to pour from the storm clouds above. Suddenly, a bright flash lit up the pitch-black sky! Was it a plane? Was it a UFO? No, it was a huge bolt of lightning!

2     Lightning is a powerful bolt of electricity. The power from one average bolt is strong enough to light a 100-watt light bulb for three months. Sometimes lightning stays in the clouds. Sometimes lightning can be seen flashing from one cloud to another. Sometimes lightning strikes the ground. One man knew this fact very well. His name was Roy Sullivan, and he was a park ranger. He was struck by lightning seven times! Take it from Mr. Sullivan, lightning can be very dangerous. He was very lucky to survive. Many people die after being struck by lightning just one time.
