Roadrunners
By Sheri Skelton

1     You might think the roadrunner is a purple bird that goes very fast and says, "beep-beep!"

2     The roadrunner isn't purple. It's black, brown, and white. The sound the roadrunner makes is a cooing sound.

3     The roadrunner is a bird that likes to run quickly across the ground. The roadrunner can travel as fast as 17 miles per hour. It can fly but can't stay in the air very long. Its wings are round and short. The roadrunner has a long tail. The roadrunner has long legs. Its feet have two toes that point forward and two toes that point backward.
