Monsoons
By Cindy Grigg

1     In some parts of the world, they don't have spring, summer, fall, and winter like we do. They have monsoons. The monsoons bring a wet season and a dry season. Monsoons reverse their direction depending on the season.

2     Monsoons are seasonal winds in some parts of the world. Parts of southern and eastern Asia have strong monsoons. The southwestern United States is also affected by monsoons.

3     In winter, air over the land of Asia is colder than the air over the Indian Ocean. As a result, air pressure over the land is higher than the air pressure over the ocean. Warmer air over the ocean rises. Cool, dry air moves in. Cool, dry winds blow from the land toward the ocean. This is the winter monsoon.
