A Fingernail in the Sky

On a clear night, I can be seen in the sky. I change shape every day. Sometimes I look like a fingernail sliver. Then I get bigger and bigger. These changes in my appearance are called phases. When I am full, I look like a bright, beaming ball hanging among the stars. My surface is covered with craters. These craters were caused by meteors hitting my surface.
