A Forest Is a Food Factory

When you look at a forest, what do you see? You probably see many tall trees. You might also see pine cones on the ground or animals scurrying about. There's a lot more to a forest than meets the eye. A forest is actually a food factory! The plants in the forest are very busy making their own food. They do this through a process known as photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction. It takes place in chlorophyll found in the leaves. Plants absorb water and nutrients from the soil. The leaves of the plants also take in carbon dioxide from the air. Photosynthesis occurs when energy from the sun combines with the carbon dioxide and water. .....
