Can you carry your house on your back? Probably not! But a hermit crab can. Hermit crabs live inside old shells. They carry these shells on their backs. Hermit crabs like to live in old sea snail or mollusk shells. First they look for an empty one that is just the right size. Then they move in! Hermit crabs have an exoskeleton that covers the front part of their bodies. This hard covering keeps it safe. Its abdomen and tail, on the other hand, are soft.
