A Poppy to Remember

Reading Comprehension for November 11

Why do you wear a poppy for Remembrance Day? The poppy does not help you to remember better by itself. It is a symbol. The symbol for Canada is the maple leaf. The symbol for those who died fighting in wars is the poppy.

There was a Canadian doctor named John McCrae. He was a man who loved poetry, art, animals, and people. He wanted to be a good doctor so he could help people. Dr. McCrae liked being a soldier. He also liked to write down his thoughts and feelings.
