A Sport that Sounds Fun - Ping-Pong!

What if people named a sport for the sound it makes? Baseball might be called whack. Boxing might be called oof. This seems like a strange way to name a game, but ping-pong is actually named for the sound the ball makes as it is hit back and forth.

Ping-pong is also called table tennis. Table tennis is played by two or four players. The players use small rackets or paddles to hit a small ball back and forth on a rectangular table. The table for ping-pong is nine feet long and five feet wide. Ping-pong takes practice and concentration because the ball moves so fast.

Official table tennis rules might seem complex. However, people can play friendly ping-pong matches with simple rules. One player serves the ball by throwing it into the air and hitting it. The receiving player must hit the ball back. If the receiver misses the ball, the other person gets a point. A match is the best three out of five games. The first person to score eleven points wins the game. The game has to be won by at least two points.
