A Thankful Start

Terry woke up early on New Year's Day even though the rest of the family was still sleeping. He loved their family tradition of staying home together on New Year's Eve and playing games. Last night they stayed up until one o'clock in the morning. They watched New Year's Eve celebrations on TV, played card games, and ate chocolate fondue. Then all the kids stumbled to bed. Even Terry's wife, who was usually an early riser, was still sound asleep.

Terry decided to get up and go downstairs. He slipped on his robe and took a loving glance at his wife before putting his feet into his slippers. He quietly walked through the hall and peeked in on each of the kids. There was Justin, all sprawled out on top of his covers. There was Jane, covered up like a mummy, and there was Bryan, sleeping on the floor! Terry gently lifted him back onto his bed and covered him up before heading down the stairs.

He flicked the kitchen light on and went over to Rover's crate, letting him out into the kitchen.
