Aesop

Aesop

Reading Comprehension for June 4

What kinds of stories do you like to read? Do you like stories that make you laugh? Maybe you like stories that make you think or learn? If so, you may like to read fables.

Have you ever read a story like The Ant and the Grasshopper, The Mouse and the Lion, or The Tortoise and the Hare? These stories are fables. That means they are stories that teach us a lesson. All of them are said to have been written by a man named Aesop (pronounced Ee-sop).

No one knows for sure who Aesop was. This is partly because he lived a very long time ago and not much was written about him. Even so, many men admired the stories he told, and they wrote them down.
