An Unstable Fourth, Part 2

The day before the show, everyone was in a flurry of activity. An extra effort was made to clean the tack, horses had to be washed, stalls well cleaned. There would only be time to do a quick clean out the next morning. The aisles were swept.

Terry and Martin were working together to wash the horses. They had just gotten Jambo into the cross ties when they noticed Danny and Ross go by. They were whispering with excitement and heading for the coat room.

Terry stepped out of the washing area for a moment, watching to see where the two boys went, and then he glanced back at his friend.

"I need some bottled water. You want one, too?"

Martin smiled. "Sure, I'll just get Jambo wetted down."

Terry tip-toed down the aisle and silently stood in the doorway of the coat room. The boys were huddled over an open backpack that evidently belonged to one of them.

"Hi, guys," said Terry nonchalantly as he headed for the fridge. They quickly closed the top of the pack and made questioning faces at each other. Terry pretended he wasn't paying attention. He got two bottles of water and left. The two left right after he did, taking the pack with them.

"What's with the back pack?" asked Martin, who'd been peering around the corner.
