Andrew Clements

Andrew Clements is the author of Frindle and many other popular books for kids. Even though Mr. Clements hasn't always been an author, he has always loved reading. As a child, Andrew Clements spent summers with his family in Maine. They stayed at a cabin on a lake. The cabin had no television and no telephone. It didn't even have a doorbell! Andrew spent his days swimming and fishing and exploring outside. He spent his evenings reading books.

As a child, Andrew also spent a lot of time watching what was going on around him. He liked to watch people the most. He wondered what they were thinking and how things made them feel. He was curious about the lives of people that he met.

In high school, Andrew Clements had an English teacher who encouraged him to do more writing. The class was difficult for him. He rarely received A's on his papers. He kept trying, though. One day, his hard work paid off. He had written a poem for the class-and received an A! Even better, his teacher wrote a note saying how much she enjoyed the poem. She thought the poem was good enough to be published.
