Around and Around

Marty was so excited he could hardly think! He had been reading a book about Ferris wheels. He had learned that the first Ferris wheel was built by George Ferris in 1893. It was two hundred sixty-four feet tall! Marty's head went around and around! No Ferris wheel could be taller than that, he thought.

He ran to the house next door. He could see his Uncle Ted working in the garage. Uncle Ted would know if there were Ferris wheels taller than the first one.

"Uncle Ted!" he called. "Uncle Ted!"

"I'm right here," Marty's uncle said. "What are you so excited about, Marty?"

"Did you know that a man named George Ferris built the first Ferris wheel and that it was two hundred sixty-four feet tall and that is really tall and I bet there aren't any Ferris wheels that tall now?" Marty almost shouted.

Uncle Ted put down his tools and laughed. "Marty, slow down. I think you started to ask me a question. By the time you finished, I did not know what the question was!"

Marty took a deep breath. "Are there any Ferris wheels in the world that are taller than two hundred sixty-four feet?" he asked.

"Oh, yes, there are lots of them," Uncle Ted said. "As a matter of fact, the world's tallest Ferris wheel is more than twice that tall."

"Really?" Marty asked. "Are you kidding me, Uncle Ted?"
