Backyard Bowling

"Mom, we're bored," whined Logan. Behind him stood his younger brother and sister, Luke and Megan.

"How can you be bored already?" asked Mom. "The summer has only just begun."

"I don't know," said Logan. "All of our friends are away on vacation. There is no one to play with."

"What about playing on the swings in the backyard?" asked Mom. "Have you lost all of your toys?"

"The swings are boring," piped up Luke.

"So are the toys," added Megan.

"We want to do something with you," said Logan.

"Well, I do have one idea," said Mom. "We could do some backyard bowling for a little while."

"What is bowling?" asked Megan.

"Do you remember that place we went to for Logan's birthday party?" asked Mom. "You had to roll a ball and knock down pins at the other end of the lane."

"I remember," said Megan. "It rolled my ball back to me again."

"That's right," said Mom. "This will be a little different, but the idea is the same. We'll have to make our own bowling alley. Do you guys have any suggestions?"

"The grass is nice and short in the backyard," offered Luke.

"The walkway in front of the house is level," suggested Logan. "The concrete would make it easy for the ball to roll."
