Bengal Tigers

The Bengal tiger was once one of the fastest-disappearing animals in the world. These beautiful big cats live in southern Asia. Adult tigers may weigh over 400 pounds! It is true that the pattern of stripes is different on each tiger.


Many Bengal tigers live in India and are sometimes called Indian tigers. Each Bengal tiger lives alone. Cubs stay with their mother until about age three and then set off on their own. The Bengal tiger hunts within a 25-250 square mile area. The tigers eat buffalo, deer, wild pigs, and other large mammals. People have cut down the tiger's forests for farming. When the tigers' food becomes scarce, the large cats sometimes attack people.
