What was it like to live in the American colonies? It was very different from life in the United States now. Difficulties made the people strong. When it became time to fight for their independence, most were ready to choose sides.


Betsy Ross came from a Quaker family. Most Quakers did not believe in fighting. (That would change during the Revolutionary War when a group of Quakers chose to support the war.)
