Biathlon

The word biathlon means "two contests." Two sports make up this one sport. Cross-country skiing is one. Target shooting is the other. There are ten biathlon events in the Olympics. In each event, athletes must move through the snow quickly. Skiers make stops along the course. Skiers use rifles to shoot at targets. They shoot standing up. They also shoot in the prone position while lying down on their stomachs. There are a total of five targets they must hit. Depending on their position, the target can be the size of a ping pong ball or a grapefruit. The shooters receive a penalty if they miss a target .....
