Biscayne National Park

Biscayne National Park is in Florida. It is located in the Florida Keys. The Florida Keys are a chain of many islands. They are off the southern tip of Florida. Many people vacation there. Some stay in Key Largo. This key is just south of Biscayne. The southernmost key is Key West.

The park's story starts about sixty years ago. People didn't know what to do with Biscayne. Some wanted to connect the islands. They wanted to build tunnels and bridges. This would form the city of Islandia. Others wanted to preserve the area. They wanted to make it a safe place for wildlife. They thought people would like to enjoy nature there. It took about twenty years before they figured out what to do. In 1968, Biscayne became a national monument. In 1980, it became a national park.
