Celebrating Pie!

Many people love pie. Pie comes in many wonderful textures and flavors. It can be smooth or crunchy, sweet or spicy. The American Pie Council created a special holiday called National Pie Day to honor all kinds of pies.


Apple pie has become a symbol for American prosperity and national pride. Bakers can use many varieties of apples for their creations.


In Michigan, pie-lovers might be very impressed with pies made with a different fruit, since that state grows about 75% of America's pie cherries. Fruit pies are delicious, but other pies are popular, too. In southern states, pecan pie is a sweet tradition. For those who prefer salty or spicy flavors, pies can also be filled with meats.
