Cooking Meat Safely

Meat is a great food. There are many different ways to cook it. It is important to handle meat carefully. After touching raw meat, you should always wash your hands before you touch anything else. Make sure you use warm water and soap. Just rinsing your hands off isn't good enough.

Don't let any juice from meat touch other food. If you are thawing frozen meat in the refrigerator, put a dish under it. The dish will catch any of the juice that drips from the meat.

Don't put cooked food on the same plate as raw meat. If you need to use the same plate, wash it with warm, soapy water first. Do the same thing with forks or spatulas. If they touch raw meat, they need to be washed.
