Copernicus

If you looked at a map of Europe from 600 years ago, it might look a little bit funny. The names and borders of many countries would be different than they are today. One country's name that would not appear on it is Poland, the homeland of Nicolaus Copernicus.

Copernicus was born in 1473 in Torun but educated in Krakow in what was then called Prussia. His father was wealthy but died when Nicolaus was only ten. After that, he was raised by his mother's brother, a church canon.
