Council of Economic Advisers

The Council of Economic Advisers is an agency within the government. It is part of the Executive Office of the President. There are three members of the council. There is a chair and two members. The chair is chosen by the president. The Senate has to confirm this choice. The council is supported by other staff members. This staff includes professional senior economists, staff economists, and research assistants. It is also supported by a statistical office. The council has the status of cabinet-rank. This means that the chair is not the head of a federal department. However, the council gives the president advice on economic matters.
