Don't Forget the Dental Floss

There are many healthy habits. Hand washing is one of them. Before I eat, I always wash my hands. But sometimes, my hands are still dirty! When I look at my fingernails, I can still see some dirt underneath them. When this happens, I have to use a little brush to clean out all of the trapped dirt. Did you know that hand washing and teeth brushing have a lot in common? It is important to brush your teeth every day. But did you know that your teeth can still be dirty? Food and germs can get trapped between your teeth. Just like dirt under our fingernails, food trapped between our teeth needs to be removed with a special tool. It is called dental floss.


Dental floss is a special type of thin string. To floss, take a piece of dental floss and move it back and forth in between each of your teeth. This helps to clean all of the places in your mouth that your toothbrush can't reach. Flossing removes plaque that is between your teeth and along your gum line. It also helps to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
