Dr. Spock was a pediatrician. His full name was Benjamin McLane Spock. Dr. Spock became famous all over the world for his advice to parents.


Benjamin Spock was the eldest of six children. He was born May 2, 1903. His father was a lawyer. His mother stayed at home to raise the children. Benjamin learned how to change a diaper and babysit at a very early age. He was very helpful to his mother.


Young Benjamin Spock attended Phillips Academy before enrolling in Yale University. He studied literature and history while in college. He also became involved with the rowing club. He excelled in rowing. He earned a place on the Olympic rowing team. He and his teammates earned a gold medal in the 1924 Olympics.
