Every Pet Needs a Vet

Some doctors help people. Others help animals. Doctors that help animals are called vets. "Vet" is short for veterinarian. Animals go to the vet when they are sick. A vet can help to make them well. Helping a sick animal can be hard work. When you are sick, you can tell the doctor what hurts. But a sick animal cannot. They can't talk to their doctor. A vet must use clues to try and figure out what is wrong. The vet will study the animal. He or she may run some tests. Finally, the vet may give the animal some medicine. Sometimes a vet even has to perform surgery.
