Florence Harding

Florence Kling was born in Ohio in 1860. She was the daughter of a successful businessman. She was very independent. As a young woman, Florence studied the piano. When she was 19, Florence married Henry de Wolfe. He soon left her alone with a young son. Florence and her son moved back to her hometown of Marion, Ohio. She did not move in with her parents. Instead, she taught piano lessons to support herself and her young child. Florence met Warren Harding. He had bought the town newspaper, called the Daily Star. They started to date. Warren and Florence were married in 1891. Florence took over the circulation department at the newspaper. She made the paper more successful. Warren became involved with politics.
