Freedom and Responsibility

Mrs. Foster wrote the word "freedom" on the whiteboard. Then she turned to the class.

"What does the word freedom mean to you?" she asked.

A few students raised their hands.

"Yes, Joshua?" Mrs. Foster said, pointing toward the boy in the third row who was wearing a lime green golf shirt.

"I think freedom means the ability to make choices for your life without a lot of other people telling you what to do."

Some of the students nodded in agreement.

"That's good, Joshua. Who else?" Mrs. Foster said while turning to see which other students had hands raised. "Marcie?"

Marcie spoke up shyly. "Freedom is a feeling of not being pressured by anyone else."
