Fruits and Vegetables

In a grocery store there is usually a produce section. This is where a shopper can find fruits and vegetables. The bright colors and smells of fresh fruits and veggies can make anyone hungry. These items are sold in many different ways. It often depends on what you are buying.

A lot of produce is not packaged. It is loose in a display. It is up to you to pick out what looks good and place it into a bag. This allows you to buy just the amount that you want. You can buy only one of something if that is all that you need.

You can't take a bite out of each piece of fruit to make sure it is good. You have to use your eyes. When picking out fruit, look for pieces that don't have any bruises. Soft spots are also a sign that the fruit will soon go bad. Some fruits look better than others.

This is also true for vegetables like tomatoes. Don't buy any with dark spots. Sometimes color is a clue. The riper a tomato, the more red it will look. This can be a sign of how the vegetable or fruit will taste.

How ripe you like your fruit is up to you. Some people like their bananas to be a little green. Others like their bananas to have some brown spots on them before they eat them. Buy what you like.
